From Rags to Riches

The before shot!

The before shot!

While in Sydney town for a work conference recently, I sprang at the chance to go shopping at somewhere that isn’t Country Target ( as much as I love and use Target lots- mainly out of necessity). So after staring lifelessly at a  trainer all day, the hour long lunch break was upon us and myself and my co worker sprang into action, leaping desperately for the door and sweet freedom.

It was a short walk to Events, the factory outlet at Alexandria and boy I’m glad we careered in. My friend bought a gorgeous sea green scoop neck bias cut dress that made her look like a goddess, and I got a $25 dress. Hooray!

This piece was a great grey and white lace dress- the white lace was an overlay, transforming that drab piece of workwear into something a little bit spesh. Unfortunately the overlay only came to about an inch and a half above the hem, so there was this grey strip that threw the whole look out; focus was immediately on the grey strip and not the amazing cut of the overlay.

I asked the nice sales lady how much she’d sell the dress for as it was in the seconds/ samples rack, and the answer was $25 (she was a VERY nice sales lady). For that I could justify buying and altering the dress to my preference, so I snapped it up.

Here is a before pic, I’m just about to finish hemming the lining up after fixing the hem up. Turns out lace overlay is a hard thing to hem to and the whole process was trickier than I thought. However I do have more training next month so I get to swoosh in (well, sashay in then) with my lovely altered dress so it’s not all bad.

Stay posted on the altered result, coming soon..

Stay chic!
